Since May 2015, Alison has been the Director Head Office in the Ministry of Defence. The post is responsible for making Head Office stronger and more strategic and leading on business improvement and behaviour across the Department. The role includes being Director Resources for the Head Office and Commissioning Services Top Level Budget and Head of Establishment for MOD Main Building.
Prior to this, since 2009, Alison was the Head of NATO and Europe Policy, responsible: for developing, promoting and implementing UK defence policy objectives for NATO, the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) and the United Nations; and for developing and maintaining effective defence bilateral relations with all States in NATO and the EU plus Russia and Wider Europe, including the Balkans.
Alison has undertaken a range of Policy and Corporate Service roles in MOD, including leading People, Skill and Behaviours work stream of the Defence Acquisition Change Programme; and jointly heading up the MOD’s in-house team managing its “shareholding” in Trading Fund Agencies and companies. This latter role included the public flotation of QinetiQ on the London Stock Exchange in February 2006.
Alison initially trained within MOD as an electronic engineer, spending the first ten years of her career in R&D and procurement.
