Enterprise Rent A Car- champion of gender equality

Enterprise Rent-A-Car is an international car rental company with more than 7,700 offices worldwide. Enterprise is firmly established as the largest car rental company in the UK today. With more than 3,000 employees and over 360 branches, over 90% of the UK population live within ten miles of an Enterprise branch.

Diversity is one of our founding values. Since 1957, it’s been a business priority to create a diverse culture.  As such, diversity is firmly woven throughout our business. Engaging in both internal and external gender equality activities is part of us living our founding values and proves to our customers, suppliers and employees that we are committed to upholding these values that define our success.  We reach out to people of all backgrounds – in serving existing customers and winning new ones, in developing our current employees and attracting new talent, and in partnering with a diverse range of suppliers. We want to nurture a business environment that is responsive to all. We believe our commitment to diversity has helped us improve levels of service, customer loyalty and enhanced our external image helping to attract future talent.

Enterprise is fully committed to achieving workplace gender equality both within our organistaion and externally. With more women graduating from university than men, it is vital that all companies get better at attracting and retaining women into their business. This is important to Enterprise in achieving our overall strategy for growth and development and to ensure the sustainable success of our business for years to come. We are dedicated to ensuring that everyone, regardless of gender can reach their full potential within our organisation.

- Jim Burrell, European Senior Vice President

Enterprise Rent-A-Car’s mission is to have our employee base reflect society today and the communities in which we do business by identifying and encouraging equal opportunities for women in the workplace, both within our organisation and externally.

Gender diversity is a top priority at Enterprise.  We realise that by developing female talent and ensuring women form a representative proportion at all levels of management, we are improving our organisation’s future sustainability. Achieved through creative working practices that identify and develop talented female individuals, our gender diversity initiatives are designed to remain fluid - recognising and supporting the need for a work-life balance that adapts to a woman’s personal circumstances, without impacting their opportunities for further career progression.  We aim to encourage women to realise their full potential and personal ambition, without concerns of glass ceiling restrictions.

By ensuring that women are well represented in senior leadership, we are confident that we will be able to sustain a culture of true gender equality. Currently 45% of our Board of Directors are women and our current President and COO, Pam Nicholson has been named one of Fortune magazine’s Most Powerful Women in Business for the past four years.  We’re a privately held family-owned company and in due course, we are tipped to become one of the largest female owned businesses as the next generation of the family are all women. This gives us great confidence that our gender equality achievements will not only be sustained, but improvements will be made as the next generation of female ownership takes charge.  We believe this will serve to strengthen the organisations gender diversity agenda and truly engage and inspire future female talent.
